ZOOM IN – Tom Ford is well-known for his provocative approach to fashion and the Spring/Summer 2015 season is no exception. With a women’s runway show that was focused on pasty-wearing punk rock girls dressed in micro skirts and a men’s show that was all about effortless dressing, it should come as no surprise that the complementary eyewear campaign is a mix of these attitudes. Shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the images are quintessentially Tom Ford, maybe even more so thanks to the styling by French fashion editor extraordinaire Carine Roitfeld.
Starring Arthur Gosse and Daphne Groeneveld, the Tom Ford eyewear campaign consists of well orchestrated close-ups that zoom in on the eyewear itself. Both the men’s and the women’s sunglasses are rectangular and have a futuristic look about them that is perfectly outlined by glossy metallic contours. The thin frames and their slight throwback vibe are shining through in the dynamic close-ups.
When it comes to the optical frames, the approach is calmer and the camera zooms out a little bit, so that the eyeglasses can be appreciated in relation to the models’ whole faces. The frames are black and sleek, just as we’ve come to expect from Tom Ford. Surprisingly or not, both of the runway approaches (women’s and men’s) can be felt here as well, in Daphne’s blonde shag and smokey eyes and in Arthur‘s matching style and detached attitude.
