We have officially entered the summer season, so it’s time to update your stash of sunglasses. Need a little guidance? Here is a round-up of the hottest eyewear trends that have graced the Spring/Summer 2014 catwalks:

1. The Future Is Now
For the S/S 14 season, designers have chosen to go the abstract route by creating glasses with few, simple lines. The shades are generally wide, appearing as a futuristic band which extends across the face from left to right. As for the finish of the lenses, mirrored surfaces in blues, greens or shades of black were favored.

2. Clip-Ons
Not recommended for the faint of heart, these spectacular type of shades are super hot this summer! From the more restrained versions at Versace and Erdeem, to the more industrial-looking design at Chalayan, clip-on shades are on the rise.

3. Cat Eye
A beloved classic. What would summer be without a pair of cat eye sunglasses? These are always in fashion and super-easy to acquire. On the runway, the classic silhouette gets an update in the Fendi show: the super-pointy edges are decked out in crystals. So chic!

4. Retro Vibes
Just like the cat eyes, retro-style sunglasses are also HOT this summer. With metal bars and colorful or streamlined designs, retro inspired sunglasses are here to stay. Unsurprisingly, these look extra-cool when worn with a sophisticated day dress, as evidenced in the Dior S/S 14 show.

5. Pastels
Light shades of pink, pale red or baby blue were also present on the S/S 14 catwalks. A single drop of pastel colors is enough to update a classic style and make it scream “Summer 2014!”. A pair of modern cat eye shades in a pastel color are so now: perfect for a fun and wild season.
