DARING LOOKS – Retro styles may be big this season, but they’re not the only ones ruling the eyewear world. There’s one more trend out there, stealing some screen time for itself: sporty eyewear with an urban feel. Very much in line with the current tendency for comfortable sneakers and practical clothes, these sunglasses are the exact opposite of the oversized 70s frames – a much needed contrast!
For the current season, the French fashion house of Balenciaga has come out with a powerful campaign that focuses onto geometric motifs, signature volumes and intricate details, all seasoned with a sprinkle of sporty sunglasses. Pulled straight from the Spring/Summer 2015 runway, the frames are striking in appearance and bring a dramatic edge to the already fantastic looks. Modeled by Sasha Pivovarova, the sunglasses turn up the drama factor with a futuristic profile and embellished details that go around the back of the head, giving the frames a half-headpiece, half-sunglasses profile.
The high-fashion band that wraps around the head may not be something you could wear everyday, but in the campaign and on the runway it helps enhance the exquisite frames. Speaking about the frames, their outline follows a somewhat classic sporty outline. Slightly oversized, the semi-rimless silhouette features a dramatic metallic frame that makes an appearance both in shiny silver and in gold. No doubt about it: whatever the trend, Balenciaga delivers. Time and time again.
